Homeless and Hungry
The mission of St. Laurence Chapel Homeless Shelter is to reflect God’s love for people who are hungry and homeless by providing help and hope in a non-judgmental environment. We fulfill our mission by collaborating, developing partnerships and working with community organizations and churches across non-denominational lines in Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties.
Located next to the Broward Outreach Center (BOC), the Episcopal Churches Mental Health Ministries of Broward empower the homeless to become self-sufficient and help them to fulfill their basic needs.
St. Laurence Chapel Homeless Shelter provides an array of multifaceted services for clients who are homeless and hungry.
Daytime Program
Day time drop in client Services are provided Monday – Friday 7:30 to 3:30. Every Sunday there is a voluntary chapel service and hot lunch from 12:00 to 2 pm, each week provided by local Episcopal churches.
Overnight Service
From Monday to Friday evenings up to 30 other homeless individuals come to spend the night. These people are referred by the County after going through an interview process. This group will be rotated into programs intended to achieve a positive result.They receive a dinner and breakfast. (See blog for more information on this new program.)
St. Laurence Chapel Program offers:
Basic & Emergency Needs
Breakfast, lunch,showers, clothing, mailing address, telephone to make and receive calls, hygiene kits, emergency food, bus passes, chapel services (attendance is voluntary).
Medical Care
Medical assessments, vital signs are checked, first aid, medication storage, health and nutrition, education, linkage with primary and emergency health care, appointment tracking, bus passes for medical appointments.
Case Management
Comprehensive assessments, service planning, individual counseling, appointment tracking, budgeting assistance, referrals for housing, specialized supportive services, replacement of client identification cards and family reunification.
Partnership with Holy Cross Hospital
Holy Cross Hospital Outreach team provides confidential on site HIV testing and screening weekly.
